What is a resume, and why do you need?
A resume is a written compilation of your education, work experience, credentials, and accomplishments. Most positions require applicants to submit a resume and cover letter as part of the application process.
In many cases, your resume is the first document a manager will look at when reviewing your application, and therefore is a true first impression. Hence, it’s important to put time and effort into developing and maintaining an updated resume.
What’s the difference between a resume and a cover letter?
A resume is a document that summarises your employment/education history. It summarizes the jobs you have held, the education you have attained, certifications, skills, and other information about your education and work experience.
Resume is generic enough for all the jobs you are applying.
A cover letter is specific to the job you are applying and has references to the open positions/vacancies. The main function of your cover letter is to show off how you are suited for the job.
A cover letter of 1 page is written in a letter format including a salutation, several paragraphs, and a closing. Unlike a resume, you should use use the first-person to write your cover letter.
Difference between Resume and CV
Key differences between CVs and resumes are the length, the purpose and the layout.
A resume is a brief summary of your skills and experience over one or two pages, a CV is more detailed and can stretch well beyond two pages.
The resume will be tailored to each position whereas the CV will stay put and any changes will be in the cover letter.
A CV has a clear chronological order listing the whole career of the individual whereas a resume’s information can be shuffled around to best suit the applicant.
It’s generally perceived that he main difference between a resume and a CV is that a CV is intended to be a full record of your career history and a resume is a brief, targeted list of skills and achievements.
It makes sense for freshers and experience to use the word resume and others as CV. People having a CV can also have a summary of CV and can be termed as resume.
